JOHANNESBURG - The City of Johannesburg has met with National Treasury to discuss ways to improve its finances.
Johannesburg is one of 69 municipalities affected by Treasury’s July grant freeze.
Mayor Dada Morero has described the meeting as progressive and successful.
"We had a very progressive meeting, touched on the issues that the Minister raised before and what progress we have made as the city.
"But what was key was also to take the Minister into confidence about the current financial position of the city so that he could also know what interventions he would need to make to ensure that we succeed," he said.
Morero said Treasury has made a good commitment that, in September, it will return to check on progress on the key interventions agreed on.
