No shortage: SA has enough fuel, says industry

JOHANNESBURG - Concerns about rising fuel prices amid tensions in the Middle East have sparked some panic buying at certain petrol stations.

Fuel prices are expected to increase next month, prompting the Fuels Industry Association of South Africa to host a roundtable on pricing and supply.

However, the association says there is no need for alarm.

Chief Executive Avhapfani Tshifularo says South Africa has sufficient fuel supply and imports of crude oil are continuing as normal.

While some stations may experience temporary shortages of specific fuel grades due to increased demand, this is largely driven by panic buying rather than supply constraints.

Tshifularo explains that individual petrol station owners may implement limits to manage unusual demand and ensure availability for all customers.

He has reassured motorists that the overall fuel supply remains stable, and there is no reason for concern.
