JOHANNESBURG - Annual consumer price inflation increased to 3 percent in June 2025, up from 2.8 percent in May.
The main positive contributors to the annual inflation rate were housing and utilities at 4.4 percent and food and non-alcoholic beverages at 5.1 percent.
The current inflation rate, which is at the lower end of the Reserve Bank's target range, supports the case for an interest rate cut next week.
The Monetary Policy Committee will be meeting from next Monday and the rate will be announced on Thursday.
Lisette IJssel de Schepper, chief economist at the Bureau for Economic Research, said it was the fastest inflation rate in about three months after we had inflation below three percent over the last three months.
"Inflation probably feels more than just three percent," she said.
