JOHANNESBURG - With Black Friday having come and gone, and December now in full swing,
South Africans are gearing up for a big but careful festive season shopping.
Wonga’s Summer Spending Survey shows consumers expect to spend a massive R289-billion this festive period.
But behind that number is a more cautious mood.
Around 40 percent of consumers say they’ll spend less than last year, as rising costs and tight budgets force smarter choices.
The survey of over 10,000 South Africans found the average expected spend is just above R6,000.
Food, drinks, gifts and local travel top the list.
