JOHANNESBURG - Fuel costs are showing no signs of easing, with rising oil prices and a weaker rand keeping pressure on motorists.
Mid-month Central Energy Fund data points to a petrol price hike of around R2.29 a litre in October.
That could push inland petrol prices above R29 a litre.
This is blamed on the usual macro suspects of higher oil prices and a weaker rand.
Brent crude is trading above 108 dollars a barrel and the rand near R16.25 to the dollar.
Diesel is also under pressure, with wholesale prices projected to rise by more than R2 a litre.
While there are calls for fuel price relief, Treasury says any help would need to be balanced against other government spending needs.
