JOHANNESBURG - South Africa's favourite hobby might become harder to afford.
The January Braai Index shows costs are firing up fast.
The Index recorded a 2.6 percent month‑on‑month increase.
This was mainly driven by rising prices for beef, chicken and key vegetables.
Year‑on‑year inflation was more modest at 1.1 percent, but the basket remains under pressure from a steep 19 percent surge in beef prices.
While headline inflation is expected to stay relatively stable this year, economists have singled out meat as a major risk.
This as the foot and mouth disease outbreak continues.
