JOHANNESBURG - South Africans may be earning slightly more, but they're getting less for their money.
The latest PayInc Net Salary Index shows the average monthly net salary edged up 0.4 percent in June to just over R21-thousand.
However, inflation continued to outpace wage growth, pushing real take-home pay to its lowest level in around two years.
The report says rising fuel prices, higher inflation and increases in electricity, water and other tariffs squeezed purchasing power.
Economists warn that weaker purchasing power could weigh on consumer spending and slow economic growth in the months ahead.
