JOHANNESBURG - Although the government is missing out on billions of rands in tax revenue, it continues to fail to act against the illicit cigarette trade.
A new African Union report reveals that the country's economy is losing almost R250-million daily.
Activists warn that every rand lost deprives citizens of basic services.
"There is very little willpower by both the government and specifically law enforcement to bring criminals to book," said Yusuf Abramjee, Tax Justice SA founder.
"Corruption is a major problem."
