Jobs bloodbath | Goodyear to shut Kariega plant by December

JOHANNESBURG - If you don't ask for help, you won't get it.

The Labour Department says its doors are always open to companies that truly do not want to retrench staff.

But many, like Goodyear, do not take up the option.

The tyre manufacturer will cease operations at its Kariega plant in the Eastern Cape at the end of this year.

"We really want to make a call to companies to approach the Labour Department through the business turnaround strategy," said spokesperson Thobeka Magcai.

"We can assist them with a turnaround strategy rather than shutting down."
