JOHANNESBURG - It's a jobs bloodbath as companies in various sectors are unable to keep operating at the same levels.
Ford, Goodyear and Day Break Foods are just some that have announced retrenchments.
Economist Dawie Roodt said that unless the economy starts growing, things will get worse.
“I am afraid that, based on the last couple of trends, things are likely to continue to get worse," he said.
"It will lead to an increase in unemployment."
More than a third of the population is already unemployed, and that number is expected to swell if these and other companies are unable to save jobs.
