KZN visitor spend expected to reach R13bn

DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal continues to demonstrate positive momentum in tourism.

The province’s South Coast recorded a 25 to 30 percent increase in occupancy compared to the previous festive season.

The Federated Hospitality Association warns that ongoing infrastructure issues are still hurting bookings and is calling for urgent road upgrades.

The association notes that the country’s tourism sector delivered a mixed performance over the festive period.

The influx of visitors has delivered a major boost to hotels around Durban and beyond.

Hotel operators have observed that web-based availability is driving traffic and are encouraging smaller accommodation providers to leverage this tool.

Fan favourites say they are on their way to a full economic recovery.

Although the peak period is easing, some arrivals are only now entering the city.

Comprehensive figures from the KZN and Durban Tourism authorities are expected in the coming weeks.
