JOHANNESBURG - South African motorists are bracing themselves for a massive price increase for both petrol and diesel on Wednesday.
An exact amount is expected to be announced in the next 24 hours.
It's estimated that petrol will increase by around R5 per litre, with diesel a whopping R10.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has indicated that there may be some government intervention to ease the expected increase.
The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources have released a statement assuring the public that South Africa does have enough fuel and that motorists should not “panic buy”.
Many filling stations have been rationing purchases of diesel or putting up notices saying that supply has run out or there is a problem with the “system” used to dispense diesel.
