JOHANNESBURG - South Africans could soon be paying more for oxtail.
An import dispute with Argentina is threatening local supply.
South Africa imports around 70 percent of its oxtail from Argentina, especially during the busy winter season.
The problem stems from a veterinary certificate dispute that has delayed imports.
The Association of Meat Importers and Exporters warns that up to 1,000 tonnes of oxtail, worth more than R100-million, could fail to reach shelves if the issue isn't resolved.
This could leave consumers facing higher prices and tighter supplies for oxtail.
