JOHANNESBURG - The rand has gained momentum against the dollar, benefiting in part from the optimism among global investors about trade negotiations with the US.
The States signed a trade deal with Vietnam, raising hope that the world's biggest economy will broker more such deals ahead of the ninth of July deadline.
President Donald Trump imposed a 31 percent tariffs on US imports from South Africa in April.
One analyst says there are other local reasons that are boosting the rand.
