CAPE TOWN - Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana presented the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement in Parliament.
It provides an overview of how well government is managing the country’s finances.
The bad news is that we are still spending a lot more money than we are raising in taxes.
The good news is that over the next three years, the difference between what we earn and what we spend is expected to fall to more acceptable levels.
Godongwana is pushing for SARS to improve collection, especially from the illicit cigarette, alcohol and fuel market.
There’s also an effort being put into cutting down on wasteful expenditure and a renewed focus on ensuring those who collect social grants are legitimate.
