JOHANNESBURG - Woolworths longtime executive Sam Ngumeni has been announced as the group’s new CEO effective from 1 June.
He will take over from current chief executive Roy Bagattini, who retires in September after six years leading the retailer.
Ngumeni has been with the company for nearly three decades, climbing the ranks through several senior roles.
These include chief operating officer and CEO of the food division.
The leadership transition has been in the works for some time, with the board saying the company is now in a strong position to hand over the reins.
