JOHANNESBURG - Online retailer Temu has made a major change for South African shoppers.
It now includes VAT and import duties directly at checkout.
Customers previously had to pay these charges separately after their orders were shipped.
It was often through courier links, a process that created confusion and opened the door to scams.

The system brings Temu in line with global platforms like Amazon, offering upfront pricing and fewer delays.
The move also comes as SARS tightens import rules to improve compliance and protect local retailers.
While prices may appear higher, shoppers benefit from greater transparency and smoother delivery.
