JOHANNESBURG - Transnet's R8-billion locomotive deal has been shunted.
The High Court in Pretoria has nullified the contract between Transnet and Wabtec Technologies.
In 2014, Transnet procured 233 diesel locomotives valued at R8-billion.
The court declared the supply agreement and its subcontracts invalid.
The SIU and Transnet are welcoming the ruling as an important step in reversing the effects of state capture.
The unit says it will institute civil action to recoup lost money and refer some matters for criminal prosecution.
