Cape Town softens budget after middle class pushback

CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town is offering some relief to residents following strong public feedback on its draft budget.

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis addressed council on Thursday, unveiling expanded rates relief measures and softened tariffs, especially for the middle class, who were vocal in their opposition to initial hikes.

The revised budget aims to protect families in lower-value homes while easing the burden on middle-income households, all without compromising critical infrastructure investments.
