Shipping companies suspend transport via Red Sea

JOHANNESBURG - The Red Sea shipping lane has become a major point of contention since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas.

Houthi rebels in Yemen have been attacking ships they say are headed to Israel forcing companies to use alternative routes, including around the Cape of Good Hope.


This has come at a cost, adding about 6,000 kilometres to their journeys and hammering their bottom line.
