66% of South Africans still without wills

JOHANNESBURG - Two out of three South Africans still don’t have a will and the trend is heading in the wrong direction.

The 2025 Sanlam Legacy Wills Survey shows will-drafting has slipped to just 34%.

Experts say people often act after major life events, but hurdles such as cost, complexity, and access keep wills out of reach for most. 

What will it take to make wills the rule, not the exception, for everyone, not just the wealthy? 

Advocate Sankie Morata, Chief Executive of Sanlam Trust, discussed this with eNCA.
