ACSA blames security for training grenades getting through OR Tambo

JOHANNESBURG - ACSA is terminating the services of Aviation Coordination Services, the company responsible for hold-baggage screening.

This follows a security breach at OR Tambo International Airport.

A passenger managed to board a flight with two training hand grenades in their luggage.

The devices were picked up only when they landed in Ethiopia.

Acsa says ACS had no contract to screen carry-on luggage.

Security expert Andy Mashaile says this ordeal was a systemic failure.
