Africa Rail Conference | Public-private partnerships the future of rail

JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Transport is looking to public-private partnerships to ensure that more goods will be transported via rail, than on the road.

To this end, it has established the Interim Rail Economic Regulatory Capacity. The unit aims to facilitate access for private train companies to the country’s rail network.

Transport Minister Barbara Creecy says opening the network to third parties will unlock jobs.
