AGOA is a US law that provided eligible sub-Saharan African countries with duty-free access to the US market.

There has been concern that even if AGOA was renewed, US lawmakers would remove South Africa as an eligible nation.
In recent years, the Trump administration has imposed new tariffs, some of which were struck down.
If AGOA were to be removed, there would be an additional tariff in play, over and above the new 12.5 percent tariff imposed by Washington.
