Airlines not implicated in price gouging: report
JOHANNESBURG - Airlines did not unfairly inflate ticket prices last year.
The Competition Commission probed the matter after receiving complaints of sky-high fares.
It followed the collapse of Comair in May last year.
The commission found that airlines were not involved in any price gouging.
It therefore has no reason to refer the matter to the Competition Tribunal for prosecution.
It says its investigation revealed that ticket prices increased when consumers made last minute purchases.
The commission says prices increased due to higher fuel costs due to the war in Ukraine.
