Apple unveils major AI overhaul

JOHANNESBURG - Apple has unveiled a major artificial intelligence overhaul for the iPhone.

It marks the company’s biggest move yet into the AI race.

At its Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple introduced a redesigned Siri powered by AI.

The new assistant, called Siri AI, can understand natural language, pull information across apps like Mail and Maps, and complete more complex tasks.

But Apple is not doing it alone.

It has turned to Google for help, using a version of the Gemini model to power some features.

The shift comes after Apple’s first AI push stalled, with promised upgrades failing to materialise.

Some features, like AI image generation, will also be limited due to high computing demands.

The company says it is moving more slowly than rivals on purpose.
