Aspen secures Indian Serum Institute deal

SA’s biggest pharmaceutical manufacturer, Aspen Pharmacare, has secured a 10-year agreement with the Serum Institute of India.

 

JOHANNESBURG - SA’s biggest pharmaceutical manufacturer, Aspen Pharmacare, has secured a 10-year agreement with the Serum Institute of India.

It will bottle four vaccines before marketing and distributing them under its own brand in Africa.

It's good news for Aspen’s Gqeberha facility, where production lines were left idle because of lower-than-expected sales of Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccines.

Aspen’s CEO Stephen Saad says the production of Covid shots demonstrates Africa's capacity to manufacture vaccines.
