This follows an outbreak of the H5N1 strain that wiped out more than a million birds in the Western Cape in recent months.

Bird flu is not just gripping South Africa, it's also hit North and South America, as well as Europe.

The South Africa Poultry Association, says while the outbreak poses no health threat to humans, it threatens the industry and will keep poultry prices high.
