DURBAN - Sugar industry players are scrambling to stop the liquidation of Tongaat Hulett.
The High Court in Durban has postponed liquidation proceedings to allow for opposing voices.
Among them is the SA Canegrowers Association, which represents 23,000 farmers.
Opponents warn that liquidation threatens the livelihoods of a quarter of a million people across the value chain.
Thousands of direct jobs are also at risk.
