Boxer muscles through tough retail environment

JOHANNESBURG - South Africans are still hunting for bargains, even as food prices fall.

This is according to Boxer, a retailer that is focused on lower prices.

For the first 20 weeks of its financial year, Boxer reported turnover growth of 7.2%.

This despite falling prices for staple foods like maize meal, rice and flour.

This reduced the overall value of customer shopping baskets.

Boxer says customer volumes remain positive for a third consecutive year.

Meanwhile, it continues to gain market share, with 19 new stores added during this period.
