Chery takeover welcomed, MISA calls for more jobs

PRETORIA - The Motor Industry Staff Association has welcomed growing Chinese and Indian investment in South Africa’s automotive sector, but it must translate to more job opportunities.

The union is calling on government to ensure that investment creates real local jobs.

MISA's call comes as Deputy President Paul Mashatile marks Chery Automobile’s acquisition of the former Nissan Motor Corporation plant in Rosslyn.

The union has praised Chery’s takeover of the Rosslyn facility for preserving around 900 jobs.

It is also projected that 3 000 more jobs could be created once production ramps up.
