Corporate cash pile hits record R1.8tn

JOHANNESBURG - Deposits by South Africa’s non-companies have surged, fueling a rebound in corporate liquidity.

According to the latest Quarterly Bulletin from the Reserve Bank, non-financial companies held a record R1.8-trillion in their bank accounts in July 2025.

The surge in corporate deposits has helped drive broader money supply growth, even as households pull back amid high interest rates and financial strain.

The Reserve Bank says this trend highlights how businesses, are building cash buffers in response to economic uncertainty.
