Electricity Crisis | Gareth Ackerman fears higher prices, unrest if plan fails

JOHANNESBURG - Pick n Pay chair and co-chair of the Consumer Goods Council Gareth Ackerman is warning the country could face social unrest if the power crisis is not alleviated.

Reacting to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s declaration of a State of Disaster, Ackerman says he is not convinced there are qualified people in government to carry Ramaphosa’s plan forward.

"They said all the right things, the problem is that there isn't a delivery plan and there have been lots and there have been lots of plans put in place but how do you actually deliver on what's been put forward and that's really where the problem is, there seems to be a lack of people who are qualified to be able to deliver on what the president is saying."
