JOHANNESBURG - It’s midweek and Christmas is just around the corner but there's no holiday cheer on the local market this week.

The JSE remains firmly in the red, extending its losses from Monday.

Ole Mphahlele from Lefika Securities who unpacked some market movements with eNCA says there has been a good run which is about 34% up this year.

She attributes this to the back of profit taking.

"There is downward momentum towards the end of the year. It can also be portfolio managers who are doing window dressing realising loses and adjusting portfolios," she explained.

The rand on the other hand is keeping up its momentum against the US dollar, and this Mphahlele attributed to strong commodities prices and improved local sentiments.
