False job promises lure South Africans to Asia

JOHANNESBURG - About 41 South Africans are pleading for help after escaping a human-trafficking ring in Myanmar.

They were trafficked to Southeast Asia under false employment promises.

While they managed to escape the scammer's compound, they are now stuck in the conflict-ridden country.

Emma van der Walt from Brave to Love said South Africans and Namibians are targeted.

"They want you to speak good English and have experience in IT," Van der Walt said.

"They were trafficked to these compounds and need to pay bail today."
