Fuel prices set to level off next week

JOHANNESBURG - The war in the Gulf has caused fuel prices to jump in South Africa, but they could start levelling off in June.

The latest data suggests that petrol will decrease by between 12 and 16 cents per litre.

Diesel is set to fall by between R4.40 and R5.15.

However, government has indicated that it will phase out the relief it has provided in terms of fuel levies.

If half of the levies are reintroduced at a value of R1.50, then petrol will still rise to an all-time high.

Diesel is currently soaring at an all-time high above R31.

It will still come down, but the price cuts will be less significant.

Petrol price changes are always implemented on the first Wednesday of the month which is next Wednesday.
