G20 : Opportunity to use agriculture to put Africa on the map

JOHANNESBURG - As South Africa prepares to assume the G20 presidency, there are growing calls for the country to use this platform to put African agriculture firmly on the global agenda.

Although with the sector facing numerous challenges  from underinvestment to the increasing risks of climate change

How can this be achieved?

Louis van Ravesteyn, Head of Agribusiness at Standard Bank Group, says agriculture remains the largest contributor to GDP on the African continent and is the biggest trade sector. 

He believes South Africa’s leadership at the G20 presents a significant opportunity to strengthen agricultural exports and unlock growth across the region.
