JOHANNESBURG - Workers at Gold Fields' South Deep Mine are set for above-inflation wage increases after the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) signed a new five-year wage agreement.
The deal, concluded with UASA, runs until February 2031.
Entry-level underground workers will earn a minimum of R18,663 a month in the first year, rising to more than R24,500 a month by the fifth year.

Most so-called Category 4 to 8 employees will receive annual increases of between 7% and 10%,
Meanwhile, miners, artisans and officials will receive increases of around 6% each year.
The agreement also includes improvements to housing, medical incapacity and funeral benefits.
Employees will also receive a once-off cash incentive of up to R50,000 for the early conclusion of wage negotiations.
