Government eyes JSE listing for new state property company

JOHANNESBURG - Government is considering a future JSE listing for South Africa's new state property company.

The proposed South African National Property Company will manage assets worth about R155-billion.

It will oversee around 90,000 buildings and five million hectares of land across the country.

Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson said private-sector investment could help unlock more value from the portfolio.

He said government hopes to replicate the success of Telkom's partial privatisation.

The department also plans to dispose of over 800 state-owned properties during the current financial year.
