Industry and government at odds over medicine price increase
JOHANNESBURG- Pharmaceutical manufacturers say government’s latest proposed price increase for private sector medicine is too low.
They say it could affect supply and even lead to the withdrawal of some schedule two medication.
Medicine prices in the private sector are tightly regulated by the health department.
However, pharmaceutical manufacturers are not happy with the latest increase for 2023, suggesting it is too small to cover their costs.
The pharmaceutical task group says the 3.2 percent increase put forward by government is half of what it should be.
