CAPE TOWN - Tourism Minister, Patricia de Lille, says the inaugural Tourism Investment Summit will focus on job creation, economic growth and transformation.
De Lille addressed delegates at the G20 event, geared at driving investment in South Africa’s tourism industry on Wednesday in Cape Town.
The sector is counting on sports to help boost tourist numbers. Speakers also emphasised the summit's importance in reshaping South Africa, and positioning Africa as a tourism powerhouse.
Delegates stress the need for investment in the full tourism value chain, ranging from visa reforms and air-connectivity to strengthening ties between the public - and private sectors.
In an effort to make travel to South Africa easier, the Home Affairs Department isintroducing digital visa applications by the end of September.
