Joburg Hailstorm | Insurers have their hands full as claims pour in

JOHANNESBURG - The aftermath of the unexpected hailstorm that left damage to property and vehicles has clients running to their insurers.

This morning, residents in Midrand, Braamfontien, Soweto and other areas woke up to access the extent of the damage caused by the golf-sized hailstones that fell last night.

Insurance companies say they have begun receiving claims from their clients.

These claims include those related to structural damage due to water and hail as well as car damage caused by hailstones.

Client experience partner at King Price Insurance, Wynand Van Vuuren says not all claims will be approved as there are nitty-gritty details clients overlook when taking up insurance.

"Hail on your vehicle is not automatically included on your policy, people make that mistake. You cant just take the word of any insurer out there that says you are comprehensively covered and by the day you have damage like this you find out that you are not insured. Talk to you insurer, talk to you broker, make sure in that list of events that causes damage, hail and storm is covered," explained Van Vuuren.
