Lego profits fall 17.7%

COPENHAGEN - Popular toymaker Lego's profits are collapsing.

It's seen double-digit profit falls in the first half of the year.

It follows bumper sales growth during the pandemic as households got into toys and games during lockdowns.

Sales at the Danish company were up by only 1 percent.

There was optimism as 58 stores opened in China, but sales were not as strong as expected.

But, there are more store openings in the pipeline.

Lego is also building two new factories in Vietnam and the United States.
