LIMPOPO - The Limpopo Province is looking to attract R250 billion in investment, following its post-budget speech.
The province looks to build on its 0,9% growth for the 2025-26 financial year.
Officials say more than 4,000 youth trained in AI and ensuring climate resilience are among its top priorities in growing the economy.
Those spearheading economic development in Limpopo are aiming high.
They say with the right exposure and investment, they want the mainly rural province to rival Gauteng.
Officials said that, with the right support and momentum, that goal is within reach.

Limpopo MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism, Tshitereke Matibe, tabled the department’s 2026/27 Budget Vote Speech on Thursday.
Matibe said Limpopo is South Africa's new economic frontier.
“We have registered a very positive growth of 0.9%,” Matibe said.
“For us, it is not the growth that we want because we, in terms of our Limpopo economic development plan, are estimating that we must grow at 2.2 percent. So we are still far, far, far behind, but what are we doing as the province?
“Currently, we have two special economic zones. We have Musina Makado Special Economic Zones and the now-designated Fetakgomo Special Economic Zones. Those are the growth points where we think we should be able to assist in growing the economy and reducing unemployment, because that is where we are going to start industrialising.
“As we speak in terms of mining, we are doing well, but we are not beneficiating the minerals that we are excavating in our province.”
