Manufacturing industry maps growth strategy

JOHANNESBURG -South African manufacturers say they are buckling under soaring electricity costs and an influx of imports. 

The Manufacturing Indaba 2026 is taking place at the Sandton Convention Centre this week, where there are cries for South Africa to produce more goods for export, to reindustrialise and create more factory jobs.

Industry leaders say South Africa needs to make more of what it consumes.

The CEO of Formex, a manufacturer and supplier of various automotive components, Wayne Mos, also weighed in on the issue. 

He said their biggest challenge now is to try and get more products localised.
