Middle East Conflict |Fears that oil prices could send flight tickets soaring

JOHANNESBURG - The recent spike in global oil prices has sparked fears that flight tickets will soar.

Flysafair's Kirby Gordon said Jet fuel is not directly linked to global oil prices, but the impact has been felt.

Whether or not it filters through depends on how long the war will last.

"The reality is we are already seeing at some of our fuel stations, an increase in those prices. And across the globe, you are seeing airlines that are starting to either increase the existing fuel surcharges or add fuel surcharges where they weren't there before," he said.

Gordon believes that analysts are looking very closely at what could be done to be able to continue going in a sustainable manner.
