Mining output declines for first time in nine months

JOHANNESBURG - South African mining dipped in November with production down 2.7 percent year-on-year.

The biggest drag came from coal, iron ore, PGMs and gold.

On the bright side, manganese ore bucked the trend, surging 17 percent.

Month-on-month output fell, but three-month production rose 1.6 percent, led by PGMs, iron ore, and manganese.

Sales fell 0.3 percent, dragged by gold, coal, and iron ore.

PGMs, however, surged.
