Mining production expected to slump further

JOHANNESBURG - Mining production in South Africa is expected to slump even further in May, according to Investec.

The latest StatsSA print will be released on Tuesday.

In April, mining production decreased by 7.7 percent year-on-year.

This was due to a sharp decrease in the production of Platinum Group Metals.

Elevated uncertainty around the effect of tariffs on global trade and growth remains a risk.

On a local level, the sector has to contend with heightened input costs, labour challenges, illegal mining and logistics bottlenecks.
