JOHANNESBURG - The task team handling South Africa’s energy transition finance is currently without a head.
This after Daniel Mminele opted not to extend his contract at the end of 2022.
The Presidency has confirmed Mminele's contract ended in December.
It says the Presidential Climate Finance Task Team is working on its plan to implement an $8.5-billion finance offer to South Africa by western nations.
The Just Energy Transition Partnership was announced at the COP27 climate summit in November and is designed to reduce South Africa’s reliance on coal.
Mminele was not present during the various briefings in the country held by US treasury secretary Janet Yellen last week.
