Namibia rejects Starlink appeals

JOHANNESBURG - Namibia has rejected more than 600 appeals against its decision to block Elon Musk’s Starlink from operating in the country.

The communications regulator says just two of the 624 requests met the threshold for review but neither had enough grounds to overturn the initial ruling.

Starlink’s own appeal was dismissed for missing the deadline.

A public petition backed by about 5,000 people was also rejected on the same basis.

The satellite internet provider’s original application was denied in March for failing to meet local ownership rules, which limit foreign control to 49 percent unless an exemption is granted.

Regulators say while satellite technology can boost connectivity, all operators must comply with Namibia’s laws.
